About this course
AISIT’s Investigative Interviewing (Entry Level) course has been designed to provide training to individuals who are required to conduct interviews. The course covers complying with legal and ethical responsibilities, understanding how to read and interpret legislation and planning and conducting an interview with a suspect/ respondent.
AISIT delivers tailored, flexible training programs designed to meet the needs of businesses, organisations and government agencies across Australia.
This course is offered exclusively as in-house group or team training, providing organisations with the flexibility to arrange training for their staff and tailor the delivery to their workplace, team and learning objectives.

- Legislative requirements for completing statements
- Legislative and ethical requirements relating to interviewing
- Understanding key legislative offences relating to relevant Acts and regulations of a Commonwealth, State/Territory or Local Government organisation
- Recording contemporaneous notes
- Planning and preparing for an interview
- Understanding the PEACE interview model
- Cognitive interviewing
- Conducting interviews using the free recall technique
- Preparing quality statements
- Strategic use of evidence
Course Information
Prior to being accepted for this course:
- You must be employed by a client of AISIT, for whom this course will be delivered as part of your professional development.
- You will be required to complete a Pre-Training Review at a satisfactory level.
- You must be over 18 years of age.
This course is delivered over 3 consecutive days.
Face to Face Training
Assessment is undertaken through a combination of theory and practical activity using scenarios.
Learning and assessment tasks are completed during the face-to-face training sessions in a class setting bringing together learners and trainers, creating a highly interactive and dynamic training environment.
All our classes are capped at levels to ensure we provide the best possible student experience. Where necessary we provide additional trainers to support learning activities.
Non-Accredited Training
Upon the successful completion of all learning activities, AISIT will issue a Certificate of Completion.
Accredited Training
Upon the successful completion of all learning activities, and associated assessments for this course, you will be awarded a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following unit/s of competency:
- PSPREG035 Produce formal record of interview
This unit of competency may be credited towards the following nationally recognised training qualification, which is offered by AISIT:
- LGA40120 Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Control)
- PSP40416 Certificate IV in Government Investigations
This course can also articulate into various Certificate III and Certificate IV nationally recognised training qualifications.

This course is designed for investigators, regulatory and compliance officers, authorised officers and other personnel who are required to conduct investigative interviews with suspects, respondents or other relevant parties.
It is suitable for professionals who need to develop a structured, ethical and evidence-based approach to planning, conducting and recording investigative interviews.
The course is offered exclusively as in-house training for groups and teams within government agencies and other eligible organisations across Australia. Minimum participant numbers apply.
